I always feel like crying when someone looted 300,000 gold or elixirs from me. I guess anybody would feel the same. That's why over the months I'm playing clash of clans, I've gathered techniques on how to prevent this from happening. Here are the techniques that will sure help you in creating an effective base. This base is for the regular base, not war base. It's main purpose is to prevent attackers from looting much from you, especially if you have more than 2 millions elix or gold.
1. Don't place your gold and elixir collectors in the same area
Collectors specially those that are level 10 and up provides enormous loot for other players. When these collectors were not "farmed" for just 2 days, it gives almost 30,000 to 40,000 loot per collector available to attackers. To make it harder for other attackers to reach this and swipe all of your collectors, place it away from each other, hidden behind walls, or if not possible, behind other buildings and defenses.
2. Don't place your gold and elixir storage in the same area
Don't place them in one area under one line of walls. Place them on different areas to "buy time" before the attacker could loot all of your storage. Buying time would also allow your defenses to kill the attacker's troops before it reach your storage. Refer to the link in no. 1 for more info.
3. Create layers of walls
I don't mean multiple layers like this one:
In this one, it takes only two to three wallbreakers to break this wall and the attacker's troops automatically gets access to all of your buildings, defenses, storages and collectors. Once it gets access, it can easily break everything in your base. When we say layers of walls, form your walls to make multiple compartments to take advantage of your walls' function in the base, which is to slow down troops.
4. Put your clan castle in the middle
The troops in your clan castle adds to the defense. Even in war bases, it's a must to put your clan castle in the middle where it'll be hard for the attacker to lure your clan castle troops.
5. Put your air defenses near the middle
Air defense is your key to protect your base from dragon attack. Putting it near the middle prevents dragons, minions or balloons to get instant access to it and immediately break it.
6. Place traps inside walls
This one is the technique for a hog proof base. Hogs can jump over walls so imagine bunch of them jumping to the inside walls which are full of traps. Voila! Hogs gone. In some cases this might not:)
